A child exits the refugee camp enters the 'film space' where activities for children are being held by volunteers. The film begins recording the child.
In the film, we see the Syrian child, living in a miserable camp, retaining his playful and child-like spirit (like holding on to a toy), ready to reveal it at any moment. “Basil” portrays the case of a child hiding that toy, keeping it out of sight … yet rushing to show it off and even brag about it when he finds the fertile space for him to do so. “Basil” means: do not fear, for the Syrian childhood is hiding itself, awaiting a fertile fresh-space to grow and flourish, just like a basil plant.

يخرج الطفل من مخيمه، إلى فضاء الفيلم، حيث يجري نشاط للأطفال من قبل متطوعين، ويقوم الفيلم برصده. داخل هذا الفيلم يبدو لنا الطفل السوري الذي كان يسكن المخيم البائس، وقد احتفظ في سره بكامل روحه المرحة، والسعيدة والذكية، وكان جاهزاً لإخراجها فجأة وإعلانها.
فيلم " حبق" يظهر تماماً حالة الطفل الذي يخبّئ عن الأنظار قطعة حلوى أو دمية ... ليسارع إلى إظهارها والإعلان عنها، بل والمفاخرة فيها، عندما يجد أن الفضاء بات خصباً له.
"حبق" يعني لا تخافوا الطفولة السورية تخبئ نفسها في مطمورة بانتظار فضائها العذْب، مثل نبتة الحبق.
